Abstract This paper proposes a dynamic predictive compensation strategy for the time delay of active power filter (APF) control system based on synchronous rotating frame (SRF). By means of phase-shift control on each SRF, this method realizes the time-delay compensation for each order harmonic current control. Moreover, on the basis of the linear control theory, the linearized predictive compensation is adopted for the synchronous transient harmonic currents of the SRF. Firstly, regarding the time delay in APF control, the formation mechanism, the influences on the control system and the relative suppression method are analyzed in detail. Secondly, the proposed time delay compensation strategy is discussed, accordingly the APF control system is designed. The theoretical and experimental results show that, thanks to this strategy, the APF can response the transient harmonic currents in realtime, compensate the time delay accurately, and improve the compensation accuracy of harmonic currents effectively.
