Abstract  For the hybrid energy storage system (HESS) power sharing strategy based on the state of charge (SOC), the definition of equivalent time constant is proposed for its similarity to the time constant of low-pass filter. Attempting to make a general evaluation for different sharing strategies, the time constant is used as an indicator of power sharing results in this paper. Simulation results are presented to verify this indicator and its influencing factors. For two power sharing strategies of HESS, based on SOC or filtering, the advantage of the former is explained by comparing value ranges of the equivalent time constant and the time constant of the filter.
