Abstract  The conditions of current reversal in UHV transmission line with multi-series compensation under different fault conditions are theoretically analyzed. Basing on Jindongnan- Nanyang-Jingmen UHV power transmission project, a multi series compensation system model is established. And then, the analysis formulas of current when different faults occur at different places are deduced. The current characteristics are analyzed when the local line and the adjacent line occur symmetrical or asymmetrical fault. At the same time, the conditions of current reversal are proposed, which is helpful for relay performance analysis of the UHV power system. In the end, based on the parameters of UHV power transmission project, the simulation of 1 000kV transmission line with multi-series compensation capacitors based on PSCAD is performed, and simulation results conform to those of theoretical analysis.
