Abstract High voltage electrical equipment’s large size results in the use of very long measurement leads, when measuring broadband impedance. Long leads could seriously affect the measuring results. An on-site measurement method is put forward in this paper using impedance analyzer. The method uses coaxial cable's appropriate shielding connection to ensure the consistency of measurement results under different space wiring. At the same time, the influence of long measurement cable on measurement results is compensated by open/short/load correction. The principle of the method is explained in this paper, and the accuracy of the method is verified in the laboratory and in the field. The on-site measurements show that the method can accurately measure the wide-band impedance of the equipment in the power system in the frequency of MHz.
