DC Flashover Characteristics of the Iced-Covered Inverted T-Type Insulator Strings with Different Configuration

Abstract  The inverted T-type configuration can increase the flashover voltage of insulator strings under icing and contamination conditions. However, there are few studies on its DC icing flashover characteristics. In this paper, DC icing flashover tests are performed in artificial climate chamber. The DC icing flashover characteristics of different inverted T-type insulator strings are obtained under different ice and contamination conditions. The results show that the DC icing flashover voltage of the inverted T-type insulator string is increased by 5.40%~12.54% compared with the ordinary suspension insulator string. Meanwhile, the DC icing flashover voltage has a negative power function relationship with the equivalent ice thickness and the electric conductivity of icing water. And the configuration of the inverted T-type insulator string has a great effect on the DC icing flashover voltage. In the end, the relationship between the DC icing flashover voltage and the ice stress parameter is obtained. At the same time, the DC icing flashover voltage of the inverted T-type insulator string is analyzed by the critical leakage current. The conclusion of this paper provides a reference for the transmission line design in different icing and contamination areas.
