Abstract:This paper presents an analysis for a kind of current measurement unit used in large current motor controllers.The unit contains the AC terminals,the Hall current sensor,and the aluminum plate.There is no magnetic core that is widely used in large current measurement.When the alternating current flows through the terminal,the aluminum plate has an eddy current that can affect the magnetic field distribution in the measurement field and alter the output of the Hall sensor.By combining the variable separation method with the mathematical transformation as well as the magnetic features,the explicit expressions for the magnetic induction density of a two dimensional (2-D) model with finite width of the copper terminal conductor and finite thickness of the aluminum plate is presented.The linearity of the current measurement structure and the effect of the current frequency on measurement are analyzed.Correctness and applicability of the explicit expressions for considering both the copper terminal conductor’s width and the aluminum plate’s thickness in 2D model analysis are verified by finite element simulations.And effectiveness for analyzing practical problems are tested via experiments.
