Abstract:A multi-function series compensator (MFSC) for active distribution network (ADN) is proposed in this paper.MFSC could act as a connection interface between the distribution energy and the public AC grid.It also realizes the voltage compensation and fault-current limiting function.In addition,the operation principles of the MFSC system are analyzed in the normal operation mode and the fault mode,respectively.The mathematical models for voltage compensation and short-current limiting are established thereafter.Moreover,the control schemes of the MFSC in the voltage compensation mode and the fault-current limiting mode,and the coordinated control schemes between the distributed generation and the energy storage unit are proposed.Finally,the effectiveness of the new topology is verified by the PSCAD/EMTDC simulation software,and the correctness of the voltage compensation function and the fault-current limiting function are proved with the laboratory prototype.
