Abstract:A new type AC PWM transfer switch based on switched capacitor technology, with its principle and basic circuit topology, is put forward in this paper, which has inverse ratio characteristic between its equivalent resistance and switching frequency. A new hybrid solid-state transfer switch is then put forward, wherein this new AC PWM switch is connected in parallel with a mechanical switch, which can be used in circuit mode transfer application to effectively limit the transient current and eliminate voltage arc due to switch turning off. Furthermore, applications of this new hybrid solid-state switch in fault current limiting, and microgrid mode transfer are studied for more detail. The feasibility and effectiveness of switched capacitor based new AC PWM transfer switch are verified by simulation and experimental results.
