Abstract:The AC-AC direct control of brushless DC motor can be implemented while the matrix converter (MC) is applied. This paper presents a novel indirect modulation strategy of a matrix converter driving a brushless DC motor based of the virtual AC to DC to AC equivalent model of matrix converter. Different PWM strategies are adopted in rectifier stage and inverter stage to obtain the good input and output performance of the whole system. Space vector without zero vector modulation is employed in rectifier stage while choke of single switch PWM modulation is used in inverter stage. An important part of this paper is dedicated to the theoretical analysis and mathematical derivation of the modulation strategy. And the synthesis of the control method is detailed discussed. The evolution of the control method can be applied in the conventional matrix converter for AC-AC adjustable speed drives. The experimental results of prototype verify the feasibility and validity of the control method proposed.
