Abstract Electromagnetic horn is a kind of electroacoustic device. Based on the principle of virtual prototyping, the simulation and experiment research on cycle vibration characteristics of electromagnetic horn are performed, and the characteristic curves of contacts voltage and current in single cycle are obtained. The characteristic of electromagnetic force which having close relation with dynamic iron core displacement and coil current is analysis. The energy transfer mechanism of electromagnetic horn is investigated completely by electric energy, magnetic energy, attraction work, heat energy consumed by the electrical resistance of coil and the energy consumed by arc. The conclusions are valuable in optimizing the electroacoustic device such as electromagnetic horn.
