Abstract Interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) is better suited to high perfor- mance torque drive and wide speed range applications; however the accurate parameters of the IPMSM are needed. Due to the saturation effect, the inductances are changed in different conditions, because of the coupling phenomenon. The speed and the torque of the system will be disturbed and overshoot. This paper presents an improved decoupling control strategy for the IPMSM which is based on the parameters online estimation. The strategy improves the control performance in the full range of the system. The feedforward and closed-loop feedback parts are added to ensure the accuracy and robustness of parameter detection. The structure of the decoupling controller is simple and compact, which is obviously improved the control performance. Simulation and experiments show that the system has a faster speed response and no disturbance and overshoot phenomenon and can significantly improve the system performance.
