Characteristics of Double Sided Linear Induction Motors with Ladder-Slit Type Secondary |

Abstract This paper investigates double-sided linear induction motor (DSLIM) with ladder-slit type coreless secondary. The steady characteristics of induced eddy current in secondary is analyzed, the calculation formulas of resistance and leakage inductance of ladder-slit type secondary are deduced, and the equivalent circuit of ladder-slit type secondary DSLIM is proposed considering the contact resistance between secondary conductors and longitudinal end effect. Field-circuit coupled method is presented for analysis of ladder-slit type secondary DSLIM. The characteristics of locked DSLIM with plate and ladder-slit type secondary under the same primary are tested and calculated, which verify the validity of two calculation methods and show that the ladder-slit type secondary DSLIM can eliminate the second transverse end effects, standardize eddy current path, and improve the ratio of thrust to power.
