Influence of Series Compensation Capacitor on Zero-Sequence Reactance-Type Distance Protection in Parallel Double-Circuit Lines |

Abstract It is important to study the effect of series compensation capacitor on line protection. Based on the criterion of conventional zero-sequence reactance-type distance protection, it deduced the relationship between the zero sequence current at relay installed location and the faults zero sequence current. By theory analysis, it concludes that the key factor affecting protective zone of zero-sequence reactance-type distance protection is adopting the zero sequence current at relay installed location to replace the faults zero sequence current. In parallel double-circuit lines with series compensation capacitor, series capacitor compensation degree, fault positions and zero sequence parameters can affect the protective zone. The ATP simulation results show that protective zone of conventional zero-sequence reactance-type distance protection in parallel double-circuit lines with series compensation capacitor is narrowed. New algorithm is needed for the application of zero-sequence reactance-type distance protection in parallel double-circuit lines with series compensation capacitor.
