Abstract:Two stage matrix converter (TSMC) has attractive advantages over conventional PWM converters for the controllable input power factor, bi-directional power flow and the absence of large dc-link energy storage capacitors. In order to reduce the influence to the grid, in the process of controlling TSMC, the unity input power factor is usually reached. TSMC is selected as a research object. Its topology and control methods in the rectifier and inverter stage are analyzed. Based on the methods, the regulation range of input power factor before the converter is researched. Then, the input LC filter in the grid side is taken into account. The relationship between the actual power factor angle in the grid side and the angle after the input filter is reached. So, with the above relationship, the practical regulation method of the grid side power factor angle is set up. And the unity power factor in the grid side is reached. The rationality of the theoretical analysis can be verified by simulation and experiment results.
