Abstract:This paper proposes a new zero-current-switching (ZCS) pulsewidth modulation (PWM) switch cell, featuring ZCS of all switches and zero-voltage -switching (ZVS) of all diodes at entire load range.The additional current stress and the conduction loss of the main switch and diodes are reduced. Based on the presented ZCS-PWM switch cell, a novel family of ZCS-PWM converters is derived, which is suitable for the high-power applications employing insulated gate bipolar transistors(IGBTs). Among the new family of ZCS-PWM converters, a Buck converter is analyzed in detail as an exemple.The validity of the proposed ZCS technique is verified by the experimental results from the 1kW protype operating at 50kHz.
