Space-Vector Based Synchronous Discontinuous PWM for Three-Level Inverter with Output Current Optimization

Abstract:A space-vector based synchronous discontinuous modulation strategy with output current optimization for neutral-point-clamped three-level inverter is proposed in this paper, which ensures the amplitude of mean current ripple vector is minimum. Firstly, the composition principle of switching sequences is studied, according to the regions where the reference vectors are located, the space vector plane is reasonably partitioned by modulation index. Secondly, the switching sequences which meet the principle of synchronization and symmetry are determined within the modulation index intervals, and the zero level clamping state switching sequence is added to the alternative sequences, which expands the set of alternative switching sequences. Finally, calculate the amplitude of mean current ripple vector corresponding to each switching sequence, the optimal switching sequence within the linear modulation range is determined, which is based on the minimum amplitude principle. Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed modulation strategy can effectively reduce the output current harmonic distortion and optimize the output current quality of the inverter.
