Operation Mechanism and Characteristic of Spherical Two Degree-of-Freedom Traveling-Wave Type Ultrasonic Motor

Abstract:Two degree-of-freedom (2 DOF) spherical traveling wave type ultrasonic motor is a kind of multi degree-of-freedom ultrasonic motor. In order to obtain its motion rule, the driving principle and basic structure of 2 DOF spherical ultrasonic motor are firstly introduced. Through discussing position relation of rotor and stators of spherical ultrasonic motor, driving force is to be calculated. Then driving torque could also be given out. When the rotor is at rest or rotates, driving torque could be derived respectively. From the above discussion, the driving torque and friction torque of 2 DOF spherical traveling wave type ultrasonic motor could be set up. By simulation of structure parameters, driving torque and friction torque can be calculated preliminarily. Then through experiments the driving torque is to be verified, results are used for designing theory and performance improvement of 2 DOF spherical traveling type ultrasonic motor.
