Numerical Calculation of Temperature Field and Flow Field in Cast-Resin Dry-Type Transformer

Abstract:The insulation property of cast resin dry-type transformers is closely related to its internal temperature field distribution. In order to analyze the temperature field of dry-type transformers more accurately, a mathematical model of cast resin dry type transformer temperature field and flow field was established based on building up the three-dimensional physical structure model. Meanwhile a numerical analysis was conducted for such coupled field with finite element method according to heat transfer theory and computational fluid dynamics(CFD). Comparison is carried out among various distribution of internal temperature field of dry type transformers on four conditions, that is without shell or with shell, by natural cooling or forced cooling. Moreover, the hottest position under different conditions are shown, as well as the temperature difference between the hottest point and the terminals. The weak links of dry-type transformers on operation are pointed out, which may give a theoretical base to locate the points for real-time temperature monitoring dry-type transformers.
