Abstract：A novel method is proposed to assess the risk of transmission line overload in power electrical market, which is based on the risk theory and market rules. The analysis of overload risk considers the uncertainty of both the transmission line state and load level. The risk quantitative evaluation is represented by overload probabilities and outage consequence resulting from overload event. The consequence models of line overload loss are established respectively for power plants, grid companies and customers according to market mechanism. The method is demonstrated on the IEEE 9-bus system.
