Abstract:A general modulation algorithm of multilevel converters based on target waveform and logic coding/decoding is proposed in this paper, considering that traditional modulation algorithm cannot be simply applied to new multilevel converter topology. With this modulation algorithm, the equivalent converter, the number of levels of which is equal to that of real converter, as well as the target waveform is appointed. The logic relation between the original operating waveform and real operating waveform is derived from coding and decoding. With the real operating waveform, the real converter outputs waveform identical to the target waveform. The theoretical analysis, simulation and experiment verification are performed with hybrid cascaded multilevel converters as instance. Simulation and experiment results indicate that this algorithm is simple and easy to realize, which is of generality with no reliance on topology and suitable for a variety of multilevel converters.
