Abstract:In this paper, a new machine topology, which couples the field-modulating permanent magnet gear and permanent magnet brushless machine both mechanically and magnetically, is studied. The machine operation principle is introduced. Finite element method is employed to comprehensively investigate the impacts of key structural parameters on the machine performance and to optimize the machine design. A prototype is tested to validate the machine workability and optimal design.
