Abstract For a tractive super-capacitor which is composed of activated carbon electrode and aqueous electrolyte in electric vehicles application, a T-type equivalent circuit model is proposed based on the super-capacitor’s pulse charging and discharging characteristics. The model consists of four RC branches. Considering the process of charging and discharging are not reversible completely, the charging model and discharging model are established separately. Moreover a new parameter identification method is presented. Comparison between simulation and experimental results show that the fitting accuracy of equivalent circuit model is satisfied with pulse charging and discharging characteristics in electric vehicles application.
