Research on Topology and Operation Characteristics of HVDC Transmission System Based on Site-Division Construction

Abstract  

Aiming at the large-scale cross-regional transmission of renewable energy in the western region of China, a site-division construction of the UHVDC transmission system suitable for the integration of renewable energy bases in different locations was proposed. Firstly, the topology and control methods of the system under two feasible schemes of LCC-HVDC and MMC-HVDC were introduced. Considering the influence of grid’s strength and geographic distance on the system in the site-division construction scenario, the transient response and fault ride-through scheme of the system under AC and DC faults were researched. Then, according to the transient and steady-state operation characteristics of the two schemes, the schemes were compared from the economic and technical aspects. The improvement measures and recommended schemes were given. Finally, the site-division construction HVDC system was built in PSCAD/EMTDC, and the operation characteristics of the system under the transient and steady state were verified.
