Abstract  Electric-field coupled wireless power transmission (ECPT) is a kind of wireless power transmission(WPT) technology through the coupler between metal plates. It has attracted widely concerned for its good characteristics, no eddy current, low cost and low loss. It also has become a hot topic in the research of WPT. Firstly, the development process and basic principle of ECPT technology is introduced. Then, the research results of ECPT technology at home and abroad in recent years are systematically analyzed and summarized. Specifically, its characteristics, improvement process, and existing problems in coupler, circuit structure, system control, electromagnetic safety, hybrid coupling of electric field and magnetic field are discussed, and the ECPT technologies for various application scenarios are summed up. Finally, the future research direction is prospected.
