Dielectric and Thermal Properties of Epoxy/POSS Composites

Abstract  In this paper, the effect and mechanism of a new material, G-POSS, on the dielectric and thermal properties of epoxy resin (EP) were studied. The EP/POSS composites with 0wt%, 0.5wt%, 1wt%, 2wt%, 3wt% and 5wt% of G-POSS were fabricated in the experiments. The permittivity, AC breakdown strength and glass transition temperature were measured and analyzed for composites. The performance of the EP/POSS composite is improved with the increase of the G-POSS content when the G-POSS content is low. When the content of G-POSS reaches 2wt%, the performance of the composite has been greatly improved. When the G-POSS continues to increase, the performance of the composite begins to decrease, even inferior to the pristine epoxy resin. It is believed that the formed cross-linking networks in the epoxy matrix due to the G-POSS have a great influence on the performance of EP/POSS composites.
