Abstract Insulation pull rod is the main driving mechanism of the circuit breaker, which requires not only excellent electrical performance but also good mechanical properties. Exploring the dynamic characteristics and response of the insulation pull rod during operation is of great significance for material performance control and technical specification formulation. In this paper, the circuit breaker simulator was used for the first time to carry out the endurance impact test. The strain distribution and response during operation, as well as the influence of operation times on the insulation pull rod were obtained. The results show that the stress of the insulation pull rod is uneven during the operation process. The main frequency components of impact response are 0~600Hz, and the maximum strain is distributed on the contact side, where the rod bonded with the metal part. In addition, with the increase of the operation times, the first characteristic peak of the frequency response re-mains unchanged, while the high frequency component decreases. The results can provide reference and basis for the test methods, requirement and specifications of rod materials.
