Abstract  With regard to the problem of large error and slow convergence in the process of mechanical parameter identification for interior permanent magnet synchronous machine (IPMSM), an identification method based on high-order fast terminal sliding-mode(HOFTSM) disturbance observer is proposed. Combined with a simple algorithm, the mechanical parameters including the moment of inertia B and the viscous damping coefficient J can be extracted from the disturbance model in real-time. After accurately identifying the B and J, the smoothed disturbance output of the observer which shows advantages in chattering suppression can be directly used to estimate the external load torque. Finally, the effectiveness of the HOFTSM disturbance observer is verified by the dSPACE experimental platform.
