| SSSC Wide-Area Damping Controller Design Based on Improved Particle Swarm Optimization |

Abstract Power system damping control of (PSDC) static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) using wide-area measurements signal as input can effectively damp inter-area oscillation. In order to solve the parameter optimization of SSSC damping controller, a novel parameter optimum design method is presented based on the Prony and improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. The eigenvalue of oscillation mode can be obtained accurately by Prony analysis of output signal, and then the damping ratio can be calculated. Due to the crucial action of inertia weight to the convergence of PSO algorithm, the presented method can adaptively update the value of inertia weight by T-S fuzzy rules, which perfectly improves the convergence of algorithm. Simulation results verify the validity and feasibility of the method presented in this paper.
