A Quasi-Online Estimation of Metallized Film Capacitor for Fault Diagnosis Used in Electric Vehicle Drive System |

Abstract Metallized film capacitor is an important part of electric vehicle drive system, and the performance and safety of drive system is directly related to the health of the capacitor. To solve the problem of monitoring and diagnosis for film capacitor, a quasi-online capacitance estimation method is proposed in this paper, and this method is suited to the PMSM drive system. First, when the vehicle stops, a specific harmonic is injected into the d axis of the motor to produce a twice frequency characteristic disturbance in the DC bus. Then, the current of capacity can be reconstructed by dc bus current, IGBT on-off state and motor phase current. Finally, second order generalized integrals are used to extract the characteristic disturbance to estimate the capacity value. The experimental results demonstrate that this method can exactly estimate the capacity value to support fault diagnosis.
