Abstract  Theloosely coupled transformer, which is the core mechanism of the rotary wireless excitation system, has a large air gap. As a result, the leakage inductance is large, which makes the coupling coefficient cannot be validly improved, and also the improvement of the system efficiency is limited. In order to solve this problem, the equivalent model is establishedand leakage inductance is analyzed for the rotary loosely coupled transformer firstly. Aiming at the defects existing in the common winding and the PCB winding is proposed. The feasibility of the optimized structure is determined by using Ansys/Maxwell simulation analysis software. The S-S resonance compensation scheme is designed, then theSimplorer and Maxwell are used for co-simulation to further verify the optimization of the scheme. An experimental platform is set up to compare the coupling coefficient and transmission efficiency of the improved loosely coupled transformer under a large air gap condition, which verified the rationality of the proposed scheme.
