Abstract The core loss caused by the rotating magnetization is greater than the alternating loss, and the accurate calculation of the iron loss is the premise and basis of the optimal design of the high power density motor. In order to describe the vector hysteresis characteristics of electrical steel sheets under rotational magnetization accurately, based on the analysis of the physical nature of the Jiles-Atherton (J-A) hysteresis model, this paper proposes to introduce the correction of the non-hysteresis magnetization in the scalar J-A model into the inverse vector J-A model, which can be employed to predict hysteresis characteristics of electrical steel sheets under rotating magnetization. At the same time, based on the measurement data of the rotating magnetic properties of the electrical steel sheet, the saturation magnetization parameter having greater influence on the model parameters was fitted and the initial values were determined. The proposed vector J-A hysteresis model parameters were solved. Finally, the comparison of the measured results of the rotating magnetic properties with the calculated ones were verified, and the results show that the vector J-A hysteresis model considering the non-hysteretic magnetization correction can describe the hysteresis phenomenon of the rotation vector effectively.
