Abstract Aiming at the wide output voltage fluctuation range of photovoltaic solar panels, an isolated DC/DC converter with wide range input based on variable topology is proposed. Through the dual-mode dual-edge modulation, the converter is working with a variable topology, to achieve a wide range of voltage input. At the same time, the inductor current ripple and its average for the converter in the modulation are reduced, and the current stress of the switch is low. Besides, the conduction and the switching loss are also small. As a result, the efficiency is higher than that of the single-mode modulation. Finally, an experimental prototype with input voltage of 24V~120V, output voltage of 360V and a rated power of 200W was constructed. The experimental data have verified the feasibility of the proposed variable topology converter running in the wide input voltage range as well as the effectiveness of the modulation strategy.
