Abstract In this paper, the magnetostrictive and magnetization properties in rolling direction (RD) and transverse direction (TD) of silicon steel sheet are measured by magnetostriction measurement device and Epstein frame. The magnetostrictive strain of shunt reactor model without air gap and transformer with the same size are calculated by the orthogonal interpolation method. Considering the magnetostriction and Maxwell force, the vibrations of reactor and transformer core under different excitations are studied through the simulation software. Then, the vibrations of two model cores above are simulated considering the influence of Maxwell force alone. Compared with the core vibration under magnetostrictive and Maxwell forces, it is found that Maxwell fore is the main reason for the vibration of shunt reactor core without air gap pad, and its influence on the vibration of transformer core can be neglected. Finally, the vibration measurement platform for the two models is built, and the experimental results are in good agreement with the simulation results.
