Abstract Based on Epstein frame, an experimental platform with the capacity to generate arbitrary waveforms is established, which can analyze the loss and excitation characteristics of electrical silicon steels. Then, the effects of interharmonics on the exciting current of electrical steel sheet are studied. The spectral characteristics of the induced voltage and the exciting current are analyzed by Prony algorithm. Finally, the influence of the frequency and amplitude of the interharmonics on the excitation characteristics and loss of the electrical steel sheet is analyzed and summarized. The results of this paper lay the foundation for studying the effects of interharmonics on power transformers and other equipment.
