Abstract In this paper, a three-vector based model predictive torque control (MPTC) strategy for eliminating weighting factor is proposed. In this strategy, there are three voltage vectors in each sampling period. Two effective voltage vectors are selected by twice voltage vector selections, and the third voltage vector is zero voltage vector. The durations of each voltage vector is calculated through the control method of torque and flux deadbeat. At the same time, a cost function without weighting factor is proposed, where the cost function only contains one variable of torque. Experimental results show that the proposed method can reduce torque and flux ripples of two-vector based MPTC, which avoids the need to design the weighting factor and reduces the complexity of cost function calculation.
