The Coordination Mechanism of Cascaded SPDs in Low Voltage Distribution Systems |

Abstract In this paper, the coordination mechanism of cascaded surge protective devices (SPDs) in low-voltage distribution systems are studied by using traveling wave theory and the lumped parameter circuit method. In turn-on orders analyzing, the effects of load impedance are taken into account and the general expressions under different coordination conditions are given. By establishing the lumped-parameters circuits of cascaded SPDs, the effects of different turn-on orders on current distribution between SPDs are analyzed and the expressions of current distribution are given. The negative feedback effects in the coordination of SPDs are described by using block diagram and the coordination mechanism are explained. At the end of the paper, some simulation circuits of different line parameter of cascaded SPDs are studied by using ATP-EMTP software to show the influence of the line parameters on the coordination results of cascaded SPDs.
