Abstract Due to inaccurate commutation time in the sensorless control and the impacts in between circuits caused by the three-phase bridge inverter circuit regulating voltage, a sensorless control method of brushless DC motor based on Buck converter is proposed in the paper. Instead of three-phase bridge inverter circuit, the proposed regulating voltage method can efficiently weaken the impacts of higher harmonics on the between circuits in PWM modulation process. The high-order harmonics content in the line voltage is reduced; accordingly the waveforms of bus current and phase current are more stable. The filtering effect of the designed third harmonic filter is good, which make the third harmonic voltage zero points easy to be detected. The proposed 90°-α phase compensation way can efficiently solve the problem of inaccurate commutation time in the sensorless control, and obviously reduce the influence of induced current on phase current. Simulations and experiments verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the designed method.
