Researches on the System Launch Efficiency and the Armature Muzzle Kinetic Energy of a Constructed Electromagnetic Railgun

Abstract  For analyzing the influences of certain major parameters on system performance of a constructed electromagnetic railgun,based on the fast solving method of the launching process for the electromagnetic railgun and the automatic computing method for the triggering strategy of the capacitive pulsed power supply,the influence of the armature mass,the number of the pre-charged pulse forming unit (PFU) and the pre-charge voltage of the PFU capacitor and the ripple ratio of the rail current on the system launch efficiency and the armature muzzle kinetic energy are quantitatively analyzed by parameter sweep.The single-objective optimal solutions of these two indices and the bi-objective Pareto front between them are acquired in genetic algorithm.In general,when the major parameters change,the system launch efficiency and the armature muzzle kinetic energy all tend to present a unimodal distribution.Meanwhile,there exist tradeoffs between these two performance indices.The research methods and the results discussed in this paper have a positive effect on analyzing the variation trends of the system performance and acquiring the comprehensive optimal solution of the major parameters under various operational requirements.
