Abstract Increasing levels of inverters is a good solution to inverters used in high power, high voltage application. But the space vector modulation (SVPWM) of multi-level inverters is more and more complex as level of inverter increasing. Based the intrinsic relationship between SVPWMs for two-level inverters and arbitrary level inverters, a novel SVPWM control algorithm is proposed for arbitrary-level in this paper. Considering that nearest three vectors (NTV) is used to synthesis reference vector, the dwell time of voltage vector for arbitrary-level inverter can be acquired from that for two-level inverter by using a linear transition. At last, this algorithm is verified by using simulation and experiment the ability of transplanting of the proposed algorithm is analyzed based simulation results, and by using experiment, the proposed algorithm can meet the real-time requirement of multi-level inverter.
