Modulation and Control Strategy for Electric Traction Drive System of Rail Transit Vehicles |

Abstract A multi-mode modulation strategy and its relevant mixed control strategy are investigated in this paper for the whole speed range operation of rail transit electric traction drive systems. Firstly, the features of electric traction drive system are analyzed, and then the multi-mode modulation strategy is presented. Secondly, the characteristics of the multi-mode modulation strategy and the existing problems of the improved vector control method are discussed. After that, the mixed control strategy is presented by both vector control and slip frequency control. Finally, the simulation and experimental results have verified the modulation and control strategies. With the proposed mixed control strategy, the field orientating and the field weakening can be avoided in single-pulse modulation. Therefore, the control algorithm and the reliability of the drive system with single-pulse modulation can be improved. The switch-over method between vector control and slip frequency control is the key point of the mixed control strategy. The experimental results show that the switch-over method can realize smooth switching between these two methods.
