Interleaved Bidirectional Buck/Boost and LLC Integrated Three-Port DC-DC Converter

Abstract  By integrating the two-phase interleaved bidirectional Buck/Boost circuit with the full-bridge LLC resonant circuit, a novel three-port converter (TPC) is proposed. Thus, the full-bridge switching unit is shared and the cost is reduced. The proposed TPC consists of two bidirectional DC ports and an isolated unidirectional DC port. With PWM plus PFM modulation strategy, flexible power flow control can be easily achieved. All primary power switches operate with ZVS and all secondary diodes can achieve ZCS-off in wide voltage and power ranges, thus the switching losses are reduced. In addition, the duty cycle loss and transformer DC bias current inherently existed in conventional phase shift full-bridge integrated TPCs, can be well eliminated in the proposed TPC combined with the LLC resonant tank. The basic operation principle, operation modes and power transfer modes of the proposed TPC are investigated. Then both the gain and the ZVS characteristics are analyzed in detail. Finally, the experimental results from the built 500W prototype verify the proposed converter.
