Abstract  The model of the offshore wind power farm based on the voltage source converter high voltage direct current(VSC-HVDC)system is established, and the small signal stability of the system has been analyzed by the characteristic root method. The improvement on the converter of the VSC-HVDC is proposed:The electromagnetic power increment ΔPe is introduced to the converter control system of the wind power’s grid side, the damping control is utilized, and the parameters of the damping control are determined by the modal control theory. The stability in the cases of the power system short circuit and the wind disturbances of the offshore wind power farm are all simulated in the time domain. The results show that the proposed damping control can effectively inhibit the power angle oscillations and the output power fluctuation of the offshore wind power farm, and thus improve the small signal stability of the onshore grid system.
