A Method for Detecting Voltage Sag Sources Based on Disturbance Active Current Direction |

Abstract A new voltage sag source locating method is proposed in this paper which is based on the direction of the disturbance active current.By analyzing power system faults,which is the main reason causing voltage sags,the direction of the disturbance active current has been found to be a good indicator of the sag source location.The algorithm for calculating the disturbance active current and the criterion for voltage sag source location are presented respectively.The simulation tests show that the proposed method has a high effectiveness in voltage sag source location caused by all kinds of faults.The new method can also be used tolocate other disturbance sources,e.g.large motor starting,and has superiority over existing methods for asymmetric sags.
