Abstract Corona effect is an important issue that must be considered in designing HV trans- mission lines. It is caused by the compound movement of charged particles around the conductors, and has the characteristics of high voltage, wide spectrum, and strenuous diversification. According to the HV test line, a corona current measurement system is developed for the investigation of HV test line. The measurement principle and system configuration is described. Problems such as high-voltage insulation, high-frequency signal sampling, interference suppression, and signal record and trans- mission etc. are solved. Simulation experiments are also carried out in laboratory. By analyzing the test results, the feasibility of the developed measurement system is validated.
