An Optimal SHE-PWM Modulation Strategy for Three-level NPC Converter Based on Third Harmonic Control and Pulse Fluctuation Analysis |

Abstract This paper presents an optimal selective harmonic elimination pulse width modulation (SHE-PWM) strategy to reduce the lower-frequency harmonic produced by the neutral point voltage fluctuation in the three-level neutral point clamped (NPC) inverter.In the traditional SHE-PWM,the amplitude of the AC-side voltages is considered to be constant,which is half of the DC-side voltage.However,in the practical implementation,it will vary with the fluctuating neutral point voltage,which will finally deteriorate the effect of the low harmonic elimination.To solve this issue,the neural point voltage fluctuating influence caused by the fundamental and the third harmonic is analyzed in detail.A novel Fourier series is reconstructed by introducing the controlling equation of the third harmonic and considering the influence caused by the AC-side voltages’ variation.Compared with the traditional SHE-PWM through experiment,the results show that the phase angles found out by the reconstructed Fourier series could reduce the lower-frequency harmonic of the line voltages and restrain the fluctuation of the neutral point voltage.Thus the effectiveness of the improved modulation is verified.
