Abstract By analyzing the mathematical model of wind turbine,the classical emulation method based on speed acceleration to realize torque compensation is briefly studied. The low pass filter (LPF) added in the compensation loop causes the phase delay problem,reducing the emulation accuracy. To improve the accuracy of wind turbine emulator(WTE),a novel emulation strategy based on torque pseudo derivative feedback(PDF) to reproduce both the static and dynamic behaviour of an actual wind turbine is proposed. Conversely,the proposed emulation method avoids the introduction of the LPF and solves the phase delay problem. Then,the frequency-domain characteristics of the compensating torque using the two emulation methods above are studied contrastively. Comparative experimental results,using WTE platform with RT-LAB real time controller,verify the correctness and the fesibility of the novel emulaiton method.
