Abstract The control strategies are investigated and described in this paper when the microgrid operates on islanded mode. In order to balance power requirements and improve the dynamic response when the microsources generators or power demand of local loads change, a novel cooperative control strategy of energy storage system and microsources is proposed. The DC bus voltage of PV systems is considered for identifications of battery energy storage system(BESS) switching function and the charge/discharge current reference. The simulation and test platforms which adopted multi-master structure for improving reliability of the MG are established. Simulation and test results are presented from a microgrid system which consists of two 2kVA parallel connected PV inverters and a battery energy storage system and confirm the feasibility of the proposed approach.
