Abstract In terms of electrical machine, different winding connection types may lead to varied winding currents. Consequently, various magnetic fields are produced by different magnetic circuit structures. 8/6 outer-rotor switched reluctance motor (SRM) has two main magnetic circuit structures. Distinctions between the two magnetic circuit structures can influence the magnetic resistance and flux, which are crucial to the performance of electrical machine. Comparisons of the two typical magnetic structures(short-path magnetic circuit and long-path magnetic circuit) are showed under different conduction modes. Particularly, two special positions (when axes of rotor and stator are coincident and axe of rotor owing a 30-degree relative to the stator axe) are discussed in detail. Also, the finite-element analyses for 8/6 outer-rotor switched reluctance motor (SRM) are performed by using Ansoft/Maxwell. Both the theoretical analyses and simulation results prove the comprehensive performance of short-path magnetic circuit structure of SRM is superior to the long one.
