Abstract In order to eliminate the grid-connected power fluctuation of an elevator brake energy recovery system, a novel grid-connected converter system is proposed. The drive power is predicted by the adaptive power-prediction model with parameters online adjustment. After that, the four-quadrant voltage type grid-connected converter feeds back the energy or consumes it with a constant power, based on the super capacitor energy storage. Therefore, the power quality is improved greatly. The effectiveness of the device and control strategy is validated by simulation and experiment results. FFT analysis of experiment data shows that, about 75.7% of power fluctuation within 0.01Hz to 1Hz is reduced.
