Abstract A permanent magnet synchronous generator（PMSG）with variable speed and varying load usually needs a power converter to realize rectifying and DC voltage stabilization, hence, a fundamental PMSG system is formed. The system can provide DC power supply, and also, with an inverter, provide AC power supply or be connected to the ac grid. In this paper, common topologies and related control strategies of the fundamental PMSG systems are reviewed, and their merits and demerits are analyzed.
